Loving the Little Years

I think that when I started this blog I published about 30 posts in the first year.  Things have changed a bit since beginning this blog and it seems that time for such things has gone by the wayside.  But, I do still try to post pictures occasionally and I am still learning and growing...just on a slower track these days.

But, something that has been of encouragement to me lately is Rachel Jankovic's book, Loving the Little Years:  Motherhood in the Trenches.  It has been such a great help for overall perspective; helping me not to get bogged down in the details or distracted from the real priorities.

I have come up with a summary of my mothering priorities and have taped the list on a wall that I walk by about 100 times a day for it to serve as a constant reminder.  The intent is for it to keep me on track throughout the day...a guide of sorts.  The priorities on my list come from Rachel's book as well as what I have learned that our household and our children need.  I will share them with you.  Maybe they will be helpful to you as they are or maybe they will help you come up with a guide of your own.

Enjoy - enjoy them...they are such little delights!
Explain - explain my expectations
Engage - enter their world to play and interact with them
Exercise - get them running and moving
Encourage - tell them when they have done things right and well
