Because motherhood comes with too many options, opinions and assumptions I have found myself exceedingly thankful that the Lord has not left us to do it alone. He has given us His Word, gifted godly authors an dgodly women who have gone before us as an example. So, though it may seem overwhelming at times, we can look to the Lord who will give us what we need to accomplish the truly important tasks of motherhood.
In our society, it seems that there are very few well-behaved children. Those in the church recognize this and realize that their children, if they behave, can shine as a light for Christ. But, as Christian women, our greatest desire should be that we have children that believe not just behave. Though well-behaved children are what give us the praise from others, inside and outside of the church, it is not their behavior that saves their souls.
We ultimately want children that behave because they believe. Bringing our children to faith in Christ is an enormous responsibility. Thankfully, however, it is not our responsibility, it is God’s. It is only God that can bring our children to belief in the work of Christ. But, God has given us the privilege to participate. In fact, He commands our participation. As parents, we are given the privilege and responsibility to point our children to Christ and to participate in their salvation in three ways. First, to love them, second, to teach them and third, to pray for them. So, in the next few posts, we will briefly look at God’s instruction to us in 1 Corinthians 13, Deuteronomy 6 and James 5.
