More About Abundant Harvest Organics - Part 1

As I have been getting the word out I have also been getting great questions, assumptions and hesitations. That's understandable! It's new and hard to commit to something without the personal experience to go on. So, I thought I would share from my personal experience and address the common questions, assumptions and hesitations in the days to come.

We became familiar with AHO while living in SoCal. We were not subscribers at the time because the delivery site was not convenient and my schedule was not conducive to much kitchen time. However, when we moved up here I had more time to spend in the kitchen and we had friends visit who happen to be subscribers to AHO. They had forgotten to cancel their order so they brought it up with them (thanks Kyle & Hannah!). It was after that experience that I was completely sold! It was wonderful to eat such yummy fresh food all week :P

I then looked into subscribing and found that AHO had a desire to come to Sacramento but didn't have enough subscribers. But, I still signed up and began the wait. A couple of weeks ago I checked in with them again to see the status of delivery and found that they were having a hard time securing a community host for our area. That's when I said, "I'll do it!"

I'll cover three recurring questions, assumptions and/or hesitations in the following days.

1) Organic doesn't fit my budget

An AHO host did a comparison study in 2009. Instead of using store names we will call them store A, store B, and non-organic store C. All three stores are well rooted in most areas of a community. The same exact contents of a small AHO box were purchased at all three stores which consisted of: carrots, green beans, apricots, plums, lettuce, potatoes, jalapenos, fresh herbs, nectarines, and yellow squash. Here is what they found:

AHO:
Cost at time of purchase: $19.80
Packaging: all returnable/recyclable

Store A:
Cost at time of purchase: $38.61
Packaging: recyclable brown bag

Store B:
Cost at time of purchase: $21.80
Packaging: in excess, some not recyclable

Non-organic (not fresh) Store C:
Cost at time of purchase: $19.65
Packaging: recyclable brown bag
